Top 2000 of 2021
For the new year 2000, the new Millenium, the Dutch Radio, NPO Radio2, asked all their listeners to send in their list of all-time-favorite-songs. This resulted in a list of 2000 of the best songs ever with a great variety between genres and decades. Due to the great success of the radio show in which all those songs were broadcasted (starting on Christmas day, 25th of December and finishing on the 31st of December, just before midnight with the last song, the number one of the list of lists), ever since the year 2000 it has become a yearly tradition much appreciated by all listeners. As usual I’ve send in my list for this year which has a focus on Elton John, thanks to his mash-up hit single by PNAU with Dua Lipa “Cold Heart” based on four of Elton’s old successes, some up tempo dance hit songs like “Friday”, “Head & Heart”, “Your Love (9PM)” and “Dark Horse”, a few songs dedicated to AFC Ajax like “Freed From Desire” (AKA Tadic’s on Fire) and “Three Little Birds” and of course two Italian songs: a classic “Max” by Paolo Conte and “Zitti e Buoni” by Måneskin who conquered the world from Sanremo (Italy) passing Rotterdam (Netherlands) to Las Vegas where they were the opening of the concert of The Rolling Stones. Other “themes” transformed in songs on my list: “Life on Mars” - dedicated to the missions to Mars this year, “The Long and Winding Road” and “Overpass Graffiti” – dedicated to the movie “Yesterday”, “I Still Have Faith in You” – dedicated to the come-back of ABBA, “The Magnificent Seven” dedicated to the Italian Serie A, “Around the World” by Daft Punk who finished their career this year, “We Are Family” dedicated to my favorite morning show on RTL102.5 and “All The Stars (with SZA)” dedicated to the actor Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther). To continue the list a personal selection of songs from the seventies by Queen, Pink Floyd, Santana and Lou Rawls and the eighties by George Benson, Stevie Wonder, Duran Duran (my all time favorite song “Save a Preayer”), Tears for Fears, Spandau Ballet and Climie Fisher (because “Love Changes Everything”). The remaining ones are the other songs I’ve listened to the most in this 2021 on Spotify like “Stay” and “Leave the Door Open” a fantastic groovy song by Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak and Silk Sonic. And what’s your list? Did you send it in? Do you like my choices? If you don't know them all, you can listen to them here:
